DESCRIPTION:The core PWP training courses gives a solid basis for providing a structured\, thorough step 2 assessment. This workshop is designed to support qualified PWPs to expand on these skills to a more advanced level\, to provide optimal care for all patients\, but particularly those whose presentations may not be straightforward. A range of engaging teaching methods are used throughout the day to provide an optimal engaging experience and to cater for different learning styles including lectures\, small and large group discussions\, individual reflection and skills practice.  \nThe content of the workshop will cover the context and evidence-base surrounding the topic and defining complexity and understanding its development. A focus will be on recognising complex presentations and severe mental health disorders\, how to effectively differentiate between them and how these can present in the context of a step 2 assessment. It will explore effective information gathering\, information giving and resourcing when there is a complex or significant mental health/risk history\, in a context of delivering trauma-informed care. Many PWP’s will need to make referrals to other services\, like secondary care\, so there will be exploration through reflecting on this experience and preparation for making effective referrals. It will also focus on some of the interpersonal difficulties PWP’s can encounter and struggle within the unique context of step 2 assessments\, such as dealing with interpersonal difficulties within an assessment\, knowing how to effectively give information if you aren’t sure the service can meet their needs\, managing expectations and having difficult conversations.   \nThis workshop is open to PWP’s only and will be held remotely via Zoom from 09:30am to 16:30pm. \nA place on this workshop will cost £125. DESCRIPTION:In an increasingly digital world\, therapists are discovering innovative ways to create accessible and engaging services for children\, young people and families. Digital tools—including digital sandtrays and videogames—offer new opportunities to connect with clients in meaningful ways\, supporting therapeutic work in both face-to-face and online settings. This interactive course explores how these tools can be integrated into practice to enhance engagement and therapeutic outcomes.  \nTeaching will be delivered by Ellie Finch\, MA MBACP (Accred)\, who specialises in working with neurodivergent clients and parents and siblings of children with disabilities and complex medical conditions. She has a worked in a range of settings including CAMHS\, schools\, private practice\, and local and national charities (including Relate\, The Children’s Society and ChildLine). She has developed an innovative online service engaging children in counselling through videogames\, such as Minecraft\, and other digital tools. \nThis training is designed for systemic practitioners and family therapists. It will look at common mental health difficulties faced in the perinatal period\, the clinical presentation of perinatal patients with a mental health difficulty and how this may be different\, what to look for in a low-intensity assessment and how to differentiate common disorders perinatal patients can experience. There will be a focus on managing risk and understanding ‘red flags’. DESCRIPTION:This menopause workshop is tailored for Adult Psychological Practitioners to build knowledge and confidence in supporting individuals affected by menopause and perimenopause within mental health services. \nPerimenopause refers to the transitional phase leading up to menopause\, during which hormone levels fluctuate and menopausal symptoms begin. Menopause is defined as the point when menstruation has ceased for 12 consecutive months\, typically occurring between ages 45–55. Both phases can bring a range of physical and psychological changes. Crucially\, perimenopause and menopause can significantly affect mental health\, contributing to symptoms such as low mood\, anxiety\, irritability\, poor concentration\, sleep disturbances\, and a reduction in self-esteem. These symptoms may overlap with or worsen existing common mental health problems and are often under-recognised or misattributed. \nThis workshop will overview practical and evidence-based approaches to adapt low-intensity cognitive behavioural therapy techniques to better support clients experiencing symptoms associated with the menopause. Emphasis will also be placed on culturally sensitive and individualised care\, acknowledging the diverse ways menopause is experienced. More information can be found by following this link. \nIn an increasingly digital world\, therapists are discovering innovative ways to create accessible and engaging services for children\, young people and families. Digital tools—including digital sandtrays and videogames—offer new opportunities to connect with clients in meaningful ways\, supporting therapeutic work in both face-to-face and online settings. This interactive course explores how these tools can be integrated into practice to enhance engagement and therapeutic outcomes.  \nTeaching will be delivered by Ellie Finch\, MA MBACP (Accred)\, who specialises in working with neurodivergent clients and parents and siblings of children with disabilities and complex medical conditions. She has a worked in a range of settings including CAMHS\, schools\, private practice\, and local and national charities (including Relate\, The Children’s Society and ChildLine). She has developed an innovative online service engaging children in counselling through videogames\, such as Minecraft\, and other digital tools. \nThis training is designed for systemic practitioners and family therapists. It will also be useful for anyone that works therapeutically with children and families. We have two course dates coming up. The training days are the same so you only need to attend one date.

SUMMARY:Cedar Create | Multi-Family Group Training: An Experiential Training 2025
DESCRIPTION:Multi-family group treatment is a growing evidence-based intervention which is used as an adjunct to single family therapy. The format draws on the experience of a number of families and increases motivation\, commitment and a sense of sharing between them. This collective experience is balanced by the presence of staff members who guide families during a range of exercises and most crucially during lunch and snack times. The intensive days are spent in a range of ‘sub-groups’ including young people\, siblings\, and parents on their own. \nMulti-family groups have been adapted for a range of presentations including adult mental health issues\, ADHD\, and paediatric illnesses. \nThis experiential training seeks to orientate clinicians into the full workings of a group. A number of the key exercises used in each group will be practiced and each participant will take up a role in a created family. The training will be suitable and beneficial for any clinician working with a diagnosis of eating disorder\, whether in CAMHS or adult services. Significant systemic facilitation techniques will be demonstrated and later deconstructed. DESCRIPTION:This intensive 4-day training provides an overview of the Family Therapy for Eating Disorders model (FT-AN)\, often referred to as the Maudsley Approach. This treatment model places strong emphasis on family working and involvement\, and supports the family to take a more active role in finding ways to overcome their child’s difficulties. The content of the masterclass will cover the context and evidence-base surrounding the topic and defining complexity and understanding its development. A focus will be on recognising complex presentations and severe mental health disorders\, how to effectively differentiate between them and how these can present in the context of a step 2 assessment. It will explore effective information gathering\, information giving and resourcing when there is a complex or significant mental health/risk history\, in a context of delivering trauma-informed care. Many PWP’s will need to make referrals to other services\, like secondary care\, so there will be exploration through reflecting on this experience and preparation for making effective referrals. SUMMARY:PWP masterclass: Perinatal Mental Health Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:There is a huge focus nationally on supporting the needs of perinatal mental health\, whether that be perinatal women\, or their partners. This masterclass is designed to support qualified PWP’s to develop clinical competency and confidence with the effective assessment and treatment of mild to moderate mental health difficulties of perinatal patients. A range of engaging teaching methods are used throughout the day to provide an optimal engaging experience and to cater for different learning styles including lectures\, small and large group discussions\, individual reflection and skills practice. The content of the masterclass will cover: the underpinning knowledge and skills to consider with this patient groups and understanding the perinatal period and the unique needs of perinatal patients. It will look at common mental health difficulties faced\, the clinical presentation of perinatal patients with a common mental health difficulty and how this may be different\, what to look for in a step 2 assessment and how to differentiate common disorders perinatal patients can experience. There will be a focus on managing risk and understanding ‘red flags’. It explores the evidence base\, and adaptations needed for low-intensity working for this patient group and different rationales for treatment. It will also support practitioners to determine when a perinatal patient may need to be stepped up for step 3 interventions\, or when they need external or even secondary care specialist support\, and common difficulties encouraged by patients and practitioners and how to overcome them. \nThis masterclass is designed for qualified PWPs. SUMMARY:Reflective Practice for Medical Professionals
DESCRIPTION:This CPD workshop comprises three half-day reflective practice training sessions\, all delivered remotely. \nThese workshops will be held on: \n\n21st November 2024 (AM)\n4th December 2024 (AM)\n13th January 2025 (AM)\n\nReflective practice can be a powerful tool for personal and professional development\, and it now sits centrally within the training of competent and effective practitioners. \nReflective practice is an approach to our professional role and duties that helps us consider our actions and learn from experience. Effective reflective practice enables us to consider diverse perspectives\, thereby facilitating multidisciplinary working and increasing accountability for our professional decision-making. It involves thinking analytically about our practice and examining our assumptions to gain new understanding. Because reflection and self-reflection help us to learn from our experience\, ongoing reflective practice can improve our knowledge and skills and enhance our professional competence and development. \nThis three half-day workshop provides the knowledge and skills around reflective practice for medical doctors (including Specialist and Associate Specialist doctors) intending to apply for Approved Clinician (AC) status via the portfolio route. \nThis CPD training is exclusive to Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Trust staff for this cohort. DESCRIPTION:Limited spaces to join this three-day\, hybrid training – do not miss this opportunity! \n\nDates: 11th\, 18th and 25th November 2024 \nTime: 10:00-17:00 \nLocation: Join online or in person on Streatham Campus\, Exeter. Please note\, you will need to attend all three days via the same method. \n\nThis is a three-day intensive course developed originally in collaboration with the University of Exeter’s Mood Disorders Centre which has a brief to research and provide treatment for depression according to NICE guidelines. \nBehavioural couples therapy is one of the recognised NICE therapies for the effective treatment of depression. Current research suggests people with depression may benefit most from both behavioural and empathic strategies\, which the Exeter Model teaches. The Model represents a collation of the purely behavioural techniques indicated by the RCT manualised research informing the NICE recommendation and also the systemically informed techniques that are both behavioural and or empathic identified by the UK Expert Reference Group on Couple Competencies. The teaching draws from the Exeter Model manual and will include role play\, case material\, group work and DVD examples of clinical work within the Exeter Model. \nTickets cost £300 for the full course.
